Bethanien’s dorms and hallways overflow with project spaces, studios and squatters. The Kunstraum Bethanien gallery itself is an established multidisciplinary exhibition space for local and international projects, and neighbours the BBK print and media workshops, Tokyo Wonder Site residency space and Momentum video-art gallery. Also within the creepy repurposed hospital rooms are artist’s studios and independent theatre and dance companies. Outside a huge open-air cinema hosts a summer program, showing new releases with original English-language soundtracks or weirdly-synced German overdubbing allowing you to hear Ryan Gosling yelling “FICK DICH” under the stars. Next door Bethanien’s New Yorck squats hold weekly VoKü (community kitchen) nights.
